When I was at school it was rare to see a computer. Floppy discs were the size of a 12" Vinyl, and the programs on them were utter shite.
The best thing I had at home was that Ping Pong game.
Then a few friends had Atari's with the cartridges (I loved starwas and Pac Man on it). At the time I wasn't into computers. Then a few people got Nintendo's. I would have given anything for one as a kid (the one with the robot thing in that moved to slect your game cartridges), but I never eneded up getting one. Then a few people got Sega Mastersystems. I thought they were a bit toss, so still didn't get one...... All this time I had been playing with my ZX Spectrum and all the games and stuff you could do with it beat all the above hands down anyway.
But then appeared the Sega Megadrive. I saw it in a gaming magazine and had to have one coz it was nearly arcade quality (and me beeing a kid thought you could get any arcade game on it, luckily enough I could get quite a few I did want). So after nagging my Dad we managed to get one imported from Japan month's before anyone else in England had on. One of the games I got with it was Micky's Castle Of Illusion, and as they were released in England I happend to be in "Game" in Meadowhall, and just for something to do had a go on the same game I had completed 1000's times before. Before I knew it I had a huge crowd watching me play this video game. It was unreal.
Then what was possibly the best thing to happen in my yooth was a frind of my dad's was selling an Amiga 500 with 1000's of copied games. This is where it all started. I then got into the copying scene and onto the Amiga 1200. It's just a shame Commodore went bust. If the Amiga had continued it would have been awsome, it was way superior to any computer of it's time (IBM Windows 3.11. lol). The only bad thing was most people I knew had bought a PC, but I was still hanging on to my belovid Amiga. So when everyone was logging-on to the internet I still hadn't got round to getting a modem for the Amiga coz ISP's and time spent on-line was way too expensive and I was getting everything I needed copied on disc anyway. So that held me up a bit.
Strangely enough it was my sister who had our first PC. She wanted it for School work, but I was happy enough with my Amiga. It wasn't long though before I had Grand Theft Auto and Turok installed and I was in love. Then I finally gave in and found an ISP (Screaming.net) that gave free time on-line at certain times. So off I went and bought a 56K modem. Then ICQ appeared I was able to talk to all kinds of people.
I could go on alot longer, but you must be proper bored already.
And the rest as they say is history....
