Video DJing Advice
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Due to popular demand, this newsletter is dedicated to DJing with music videos. Who better to explain the virtues of video DJing than the experts who produce and perform music videos; VPS (Video Production Systems).
VPS is based in Epping (somewhere near Stanstead Airport!). Most of the team are video DJs and, from their experience, they recognised the need for good quality music videos. They now produce many of the videos distributed by Mixmash.
In October we paid a visit to the VPS HQ and had the pleasure of meeting the team there who gave us an overview of what they do and how they do it. So over to Les Hardman from VPS:
Becoming a video DJ opens up the opportunity to enhance your income by charging more for your uniqueness. It's the visual aspect that clients enjoy. Those that dance will always dance, but those that sit out most songs will be entertained by the visuals; so both types of guests are catered for.
Music from all decades and genres are becoming widely available and affordable. For your more mature guests, they will enjoy seeing the artists on screen; the nostalgia and talking points that these videos create.
For commercial bookings, you can use your screens to advertise by displaying your clients' up and coming events using text to screen; include any special offers that they may be promoting.
For private functions like weddings you can run family photos or pictures taken at the ceremony earlier that same day or make a DVD of the event and sell copies of the disc to family members. For birthday parties, you can collate old and embarrassing pictures of the client and run these during the course of the night. These are all added touches that enable you to gain further income for very little extra work and gives you a unique selling point.
The price of video content has come down dramatically with special offers on start-up bundles as well as monthly and weekly releases to keep you updated. Software and hardware are now designed with video in mind as the industry sees this as the way forward for mobile and club DJs. VPS has been releasing DJ friendly remixes and edits for video DJs and the record industry via Mixmash on the weekly 'Quickmash' and 'monthly series' of video releases.
Following BPM 2011, while working alongside Mixmash, it became very evident that DJs were interested in crossing over to video but were unsure of costs, equipment required, content availability, licensing and required marketing.
Utilising our partnerships with leading companies within our industry, including Pioneer, VirtualDJ and Serato, VPS are now offering a comprehensive course for DJs that enables the transition to video and allows you to maximise your profits. This also includes a deal with the VPL so once you have attended the course you can receive your Video Performance Licence.
We can also supply video DJ Software (available at extra cost but with fantastic extras not available via any other company) with full product support and content and hardware from the industry leader Pioneer.
The cost of the 1 day course is £600.00 but once attended you will leave fully licensed to begin marketing yourself as a video DJ straight away with continued support and advice afterwards.
The experienced VPS video DJ and video remix team have developed this training course specifically for DJs.
The first part of the course is in the classroom where you will learn:
marketing techniques - this is an essential part of your business. Without effective marketing, no one will be aware of your service and the advantages of booking a video DJ.
a basic computer course on maintenance - this will save you money in the long run. Whether you are an experienced computer user or a relative beginner, you will gain extra skills.
Video Performance Licence - the importance of the Licence and how you can use this to increase your prices.
tips on personalising each event with free software including advice on how to use it.
Following lunch, the hands on experience begins which includes:
Mixing techniques and microphone techniques - how to overcome practical issues and develop your video mixing skills. You will get the full hands on experience trained by DJ Bobby G (the BPM / Mixmash video DJ)
Video DJing is the fastest growing sector for both mobile DJs and club venues. During this action packed session the VPS team, who have over 10 years of experience in this area, aim to answer all your questions regarding this new and exciting opportunity.
VPS also offer after training support should any questions arise relating to hardware or software and general problem solving via their experienced team of advisors. This is free to VPS trained personnel.
We also plan to update delegates with a training video and other areas we consider important via a members only YouTube site. To find out more and sign up for this exciting course and break into the lucrative video DJing market, click here www.vps-ltd.net/ampdj.
Many thanks to the team at VPS.
