Here's a list of some of the venues I have Djd at over the years, some once or twice some many... www.beerintheevening.com is a good site to check out what they are like. If you would like my oppinion on any of these venue's - what they are like for disco's / price of beer and even what the staff are like just ask. After spending 8 years working in pubs and bars I have a preitty good idea what you should expect. Ever been to one of my gigs? I'm on freeindex.co.uk Thanks. Gareth.

Things to consider when booking venue's: It's essential for a disco to have a smoke / haze machine to get the effect from the disco lights. However even though the solution used in smoke / haze machines is not harmful many venue's don't allow these machine as they can trigger the smoke detecotrs. They can in some cases be turned off, but from out experience there's rarely anyone working who knows how or is willing to turn it off in the room with the disco. Overall this one piece of kit can transform the disco & dramatically change the atmosphere in the room - you want everyone in party mode right?
Stairs are also another bug-bear of mobile disco's. It's not that we are lazy, but it just takes alot longer to set the gear up and take it back down. Some venue's book the room out "per hour" so if it takes about an hour to set everything up, but the tips up and down stairs use half it up don't expect it all to be ready for when your guests arrive.
Noise restrictors - I appreciate it can't be good living close to somewhere that holds noisy events. However it's just common sense, Im never going to turn it up that loud it makes your ears bleed so noise restrictors that cut the power off are a big drawback when hiring a venue, people just won't get up and dance if the music isn't loud enough. Also it can damage my equipment and if the noise level does cut the power off while the dance floors heaving it will no doubt be clear by the time the sound starts coming through my speakers again.
Bubble/Snow/Foan machines - some venue's say they don't allow these kind of things because of their insurance. I havn't looked into it in depth, but isn't that why I pay for public liability insurance & have it to cover the business? Most of the time they say they don't allow it becuase they think they will have to clean the floors - again it's common sense, used responsibly it doesn't make a mess or ruin the floor.
Space to set the disco up - ideally with room for the video screen. I've already mentioned this, but we don't just turn up with a mixer and stick it on a table with a tripod and a couple of lights - please have a look at our pictures to see what we mean. On quite a few occasions people have hired bands -they usually need just as much space as us so please bear it in mind as the disco can't be moved once set-up.
Resident DJ's. Many venue's push you to have their DJ or say you have to pay extra for an outside one - if you had heard how many times i've been told "the resident dj at such and such was rubbish" as many times as I've been told you would think twice. Have you seen them in action before? Do you know what they are like compared to other disco's? Or are you willing to risk it - seeing as it's the one of the most important features of the night (possibly the main source of entertainment for th night) it's a big gamble to take, but something most people think nothing of and just assume they are going to be great & think one disco is same as another then sadly they turn out to be quite the opposite. Sorry if I sound grumpy - they are just a couple of points we have run into over the years so when asking us for a quote please let us know what we are going to & if you havn't decided on a venue yet they are good points to ask about.
